Financial Relief Information for Small Businesses

The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating to the economy, particularly to small businesses. As you probably already know, on March 18, 2020 Congress passed sweeping legislation creating short- and long-term paid leave specifically for employees of employers with 500 or fewer employees. With a view towards buffering the impact of the pandemic and enactment of paid leave requirements for small business, on March 27, 2020 Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”). Of particular importance to employers, the CARES Act allocates $350 billion in relief for small businesses. Companies with 500 or fewer employees that maintain their payroll during the pandemic can receive up to eight weeks of cash-flow assistance. If employers maintain payroll, the portion of the loans used for covered costs would be forgiven.
