Federal Guidance for Businesses and Employers

The federal government passed or released a veritable avalanche of law, orders and guidance related to the COVID-19 pandemic over the course of the past few weeks. On March 18, 2020, Congress passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (“FFCRA”), which expanded the Family Medical Leave Act and created short- and long-term bases for job-protected paid leave applicable specifically to employers with 500 or fewer employees. The Department of Labor and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission released critical guidance about how to manage various employment-related issues under both new and existing law. The Centers for Disease Control and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration published information that will help employers to create and maintain a safe workspace during this unprecedented crisis.
